We love type… and typographic cards are the perfect way to share that obsession. Typography is defined as ‘the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible and readable’ and while this is undeniably true, typography is not just about communication, there is more.... There is an inherent beauty in the shapes made by letterforms and the use of typography can impact the way a design is perceived by creating a specific mood or tone and establishing a visual style or identity.
For this reason, we start with type selection and typesetting rules as the basis for any new typographic card design. Font choice, the use of different weights and styles, letter spacing and line heights all contribute to creating a visual rhythm and balance. Getting these decisions right will determine the character and personality in the final design, allowing a product to stand apart and be unique. The German-born architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe famously said that ‘God is in the details’ and every detail requires careful consideration.
