What makes a cool card? There is no recipe, it's a subjective premise which is surely multifaceted. Is it cool imagery, cool design, cool typography, cool colours or images which express a cool attitude or uniqueness? Probably it’s all of these things and will vary depending on who is looking at it. It’s fluid and dynamic reflecting the ever-changing attitudes to art, design and popular culture.
During product research, we review hundreds of images and are always on the lookout for that X factor or a certain quirkiness that is difficult to define. An unconventional angle, composition, or point of view that captures attention and may make for a cool card. Sometimes we may be drawn to colour or an underlying narrative. Sometimes it may be a cultural reference reflecting something that is topical or a unique perspective on the world we live in. In our approach to designing cards, we are influenced by the Swiss Style and we have a strong focus on typography. We also experiment with colour and colour trends to design products that evolve with changing times and fashions. We also believe that materials are integral to making a cool product. All the little details matter and contribute to the end result.
