Gone are the days when this festival of classical music dating back to 1895 was seen as elitist upper class pomp and ceremony, the Proms nowadays is an 8 week musical extravaganza of over 100 concerts and events taking place throughout the country. And it's not limited to classical music either, you can catch concerts of opera, chamber music and jazz, as well as performances and lectures aimed at junior prommers.

This year, for the first time audiences all over the country can join in the last night festivites from their local cinema where the whole concert is beamed out in 3D no less. Major cities in the UK are hosting last night sing-alongs on big screens, and tv and radio will be covering the festival concerts until the culmination on 8th September.

So here's another chance to get your Union Jack flags out and proudly wave them about whilst singing Land of Hope and Glory, you could even Google the lyrics this time instead of mumbling along.

Take a look at our "Opera Buffs" greeting card to get you in the party mood.
