Our favourite auntie has a milestone birthday today and like most members of the senior persuasion she's very proud to announce her age to the world.

The British Broadcasting Corporation aka the BBC aka Auntie Beeb is 90 years old today. On the 18th October 1922, a collective of telecommunications companies got together and, after many months of planning, and a fair amount of sherry I daresay, founded the British Broadcasting Company Ltd. Less than a month later the first radio transmission was aired from Marconi House in London and the first television broadcast was to come a little later, in 1932.

Since then it has become recognised as the most influential, distinguished and respected broadcaster in the world, with its services reaching every part of the Earth via television, radio and internet. Thanks to its funding from the public's license fees, government grants and income from commercial enterprises, we are lucky to be informed, entertained and educated by programmes of the higest calibre....without adverts!

So how the dickens do you go about choosing a birthday card for a 90 year of of such status and repute? What sort of birthday card do you suppose would suit the BBC - a funny birthday card? An inspirational birthday card? Or perhaps a surprisingly rude birthday card?  Well, our clever solution covers all bases, we recommend sending a birthday card to all those who work in the BBC....but with a mere 23,000 staff it might take a while to lick all those envelopes.

Happy Birthday BBC
